The “Design Commission” provides a forum for attorneys at law, agents, legal counsels and academic scholars to follow legal and case-law developments regarding the protection of the appearance of products (“Design Law”) under copyright and the registration systems on national, Benelux, EU and international levels, including issues related to registration (prosecution), and to participate to the ongoing developments of this legal field at all geographical levels via AIPPI or (through the national association) in contact with national or Benelux authorities.

Like with our other national commissions and AIPPI in general, the objective consists of finding balanced solutions in view of the interests of the various stakeholders in the field, namely designers, employers or clients, possible alleged infringers, consumers and the public in general.

The Commission’s work at international level focuses on the questionnaires provided from time to time by the AIPPI Study Committee’s in this field in preparation of annual AIPPI World Congresses (like for instance for the congress in Milan, 2016). The commission’s members are invited to raise new issues or concerns, if any, encountered in their professional experience and to take an active part in the organization of study days or lunch conferences on recent developments in this field.

The “ Trademark Commission” provides a forum to discuss legal topics around all aspects of trademark law at International, European and Benelux level.
Members of the Commission are attorneys at law, trademark agents,  legal counsels and academic scholars . 
The Commission’s work at international level focuses on the questionnaires provided by the AIPPI Study Committee’s in preparation of the autumn World Congress. At a national level, the commission’s members are invited to take an active partin the organization of study days or lunch conferences on recent developments in this field.

The patent commission provides a forum to discuss how patent law can or should support Belgian industry.
Members of the commission are attorneys-at-law, legal counsels and patent attorneys, from private practice, academia or technology-driven industry, allowing to have a broader view on this topic.
During our informal meetings, members share their daily-life experiences, thereby strengthening their knowledge on different aspects of the application of patent law.

On an international level, we discuss during spring the intriguing questionnaires provided by the AIPPI Study Committee's in preparation of the autumn World Congress. We convey the view of our Belgian Chapter to various AIPPI Standing Committees, in particular those related to patent law such as on Patents, on Enforcement, on PCT, on Pharma&Biotech, on Standards&Patents,  or, on Unified Patent Court.
On a national level, we bring patent-law related topics to lunch meetings and study days planned by our Board, ensuring that our members remain at pace with legislative developments. We support position papers provided by AIPPI Belgium.

 

COPYRIGHT, INFORMATION SOCIETY & NETWORKS

The “Copyright, Information Society and Networks Commission” provides a forum to discuss legal topics around the use of works, databases and other contents protected by copyright and neighboring rights. A special attention is paid to issues arising in a digital or a technological environment.

Members of the Commission are attorneys at law, legal counsels and academic scholars . Their objective is to find balanced solutions that seek to conciliate the interests of the various stakeholders in these challenging area’s.

The Commission’s work at international level focuses on the questionnaires provided by the AIPPI Study Committee’s in preparation of the autumn World Congress. At a national level, the commission’s members are invited to take an active partin the organization of study days or lunch conferences on recent developments in this field.
